Documents Required for Verification (Annexure-I)

Candidates must bring a complete set of self-attested/attested photocopies of all documents along with their originals for verification on the day of the interview. Ensure all certificates are in the ‘prescribed proforma’ where specified. The crucial date for eligibility and reservation claims is the last date for receipt of the Online Recruitment Application (ORA).

Educational & Age Proof

  • Matriculation/10th Standard Certificate: For Date of Birth proof. If DOB not on certificate/mark sheet, School Leaving Certificate will be considered.
  • Degree/Diploma Certificate(s): Along with mark sheets for all academic years, as proof of educational qualification. Provisional certificate with mark sheets for all academic years is acceptable if degree/diploma certificate is unavailable.

Experience Certificates

  • Experience Certificate(s) in Prescribed Proforma: From Head(s) of Organization(s)/Department(s), clearly stating duration of employment (date, month & year), basic pay, consolidated pay, nature of duties, and relevant experience for the post. Experience not in prescribed proforma may be considered on merits.

Category Certificates

  • Caste Certificate (SC/ST/OBC) in Prescribed Proforma: Issued by competent authority, indicating Caste, Act/Order of recognition, and ordinary residence.
  • OBC Declaration in Prescribed Proforma: By candidates seeking OBC reservation, stating non-creamy layer status on the crucial date, in addition to the community certificate (OBC).
  • Physically Handicapped (PH) Certificate in Prescribed Proforma: Issued by competent authority, for eligible persons based on prescribed medical fitness standards.

Other Specific Documents

  • Documents for Name Change:
    • For women post-marriage/remarriage/divorce: Photocopy of Husband’s passport showing spouses’ names OR attested marriage certificate OR Affidavit from husband/wife with joint photograph sworn before Oath Commissioner. For remarriage, also Divorce Deed/Death Certificate of first spouse.
    • For divorce of women: Certified copy of Divorce Decree and Deed Poll/Affidavit sworn before the Oath Commissioner.
    • For other circumstances (male/female): Deed Poll/Affidavit sworn before the Oath Commissioner, and paper cuttings of two leading daily newspapers (one from applicant’s permanent/present address area) and Gazette Notification.
    • For spelling errors in name: An Affidavit duly sworn before the Oath Commissioner.
  • Certificates for Age Relaxation (in Prescribed Proforma): For Ex-Servicemen, Commissioned Officers, Central/UT Government Employees, Meritorious Sports persons, Widows/Divorced Women/Women Judicially separated from Husbands, and persons domiciled in J&K (1st Jan 1980 to 31st Dec 1989).
  • Declaration for Regular Government Service: If already in regular government service (permanent or temporary, not casual/ad hoc), submit a declaration confirming you have informed your Head of Office/Department in writing about applying for this selection.
  • Employer Certificate for Government Servants: If claiming to be a Government servant, a certificate from your employer stating your government servant status as on the closing date for the post(s).
  • Any other condition-specific documents: As applicable (e.g., for ex-servicemen).

General Instructions for Documents

  • Refer to the relevant advertisement on www.upsc.gov.in under the ‘Recruitment’ tab for prescribed formats of certificates.
  • Bring a complete set of self-attested/attested photocopies of all your documents.

Important Instructions for Interview Day

General Guidelines

  • Verification: Any false information or claim made in your online application or during document verification will lead to rejection of candidature and debarment from future examinations/selections by UPSC and employment under the Central Government.
  • Government Service: If already in government service, you may be liable to disciplinary action for non-compliance with appropriate rules.
  • Call for Interview: Being called for an interview does not guarantee selection or support for a higher starting salary.

Attestation Form & Photograph Guidelines

  • Attestation Form: Kindly fill up the Attestation Form available on the Commission’s website (www.upsc.gov.in under link ‘Recruitment’).
  • Photographs: Bring three copies of passport size photographs (approx. 4cm x 5cm).
    • Specifications: Colour, clear, continuous-tone quality, full face (full head from top of hair to bottom of chin), front view, eyes open, plain white or off-white background, no distracting shadows, natural expression.
    • Timeliness: Photographs must have been taken within the preceding ten (10) days.
    • Matching: Candidate’s appearance must match the photograph uploaded at the time of Online Application Recruitment (ORA) form.
    • Labeling: The photograph should have the name of the candidate and date of photograph clearly printed on the same.
    • Affixing: Affix one photograph with the above specifications on the Attestation Form in the specified space for submission during original document checking.

Banned Items

The following items are strictly NOT allowed inside the UPSC premises during the interview:

  • Suitcase, Luggage
  • Mobile Phones, Cameras, Bluetooth, recording devices
  • I-pads, Pods, Laptops, Palmtops or other electronic or communication devices

Infringement of these instructions may result in cancellation of candidature and disciplinary action. Candidates are advised not to bring banned items, as safekeeping arrangements are not assured.

Allowed Items (for Scrutiny by Interview Board)

Candidates may bring the following if relevant to the advertised post and if they wish to submit them to the Interview Board for scrutiny:

  • Books, publications, manuscripts (of which you claim authorship)
  • Any Thesis/Dissertation submitted for post-graduate qualification
  • Reprints of papers published in journals of repute
  • Any literary/artistic and architectural work done by you

Travel Allowance (TA) Guidelines

  • Eligibility: Only outstation candidates called for interview are granted contribution towards travelling expenses.
  • Reimbursement Limit: Restricted to Second/Sleeper class train fare (Mail/Express). If journey is by other mode/class, reimbursement will still be limited to Second/Sleeper class train fare.
  • Required Documents: Bring two duly filled copies of TA bill forms (available on UPSC forms-downloads link) and hard copies of tickets for both ways journey.
  • Submission: Submit forms and tickets on the day of personality tests/interview. If hard copies are not brought, tickets can be sent via email to accounts1.upsc@gov.in well in advance.
  • Collection: The contribution can be collected from the cashier at the Commission’s office on the day of the interview before leaving.
  • Conditional Interview: If interviewed conditionally, TA will not be paid until the conditionality is cleared. Candidates should have adequate funds for their return journey.

If your name is not on the list, it means you have not been shortlisted for the interview round. Only candidates whose Roll Numbers and Names appear in this official schedule are eligible to attend the interview.

2. Can I change my interview date or time?

Typically, UPSC interview schedules are final and requests for changes are not entertained unless there is a grave and unavoidable circumstance, and it is entirely at the discretion of the Commission. Candidates should contact UPSC directly via their official channels if such a situation arises, though approval is rare.

3. What is the ‘prescribed proforma’ mentioned for certificates?

The ‘prescribed proforma’ refers to specific formats in which certain certificates (like Caste, PH, Experience, etc.) must be issued. These formats are usually provided in the original recruitment advertisement or are available on the UPSC website under the ‘Recruitment’ tab. It is crucial to use these exact formats to avoid rejection.
