Eligibility Criteria for Ph.D. Programme

Candidates must meet the following criteria to be eligible for the MANUU Ph.D. Programme in Sponsored/Self-Financing (Part-Time) Mode:

General Academic Qualifications

  • A Master’s degree in the concerned subject or an allied subject with at least 55% marks in aggregate or its equivalent grade in a point scale.
  • Relaxation: A 5% relaxation in qualifying examination marks will be provided for candidates belonging to SC, ST, and OBC (Non-Creamy Layer) categories.
  • Candidates who have completed an M.Phil. program with at least 55% marks in aggregate or its equivalent grade are also eligible.

Urdu Proficiency Requirement

Applicants must demonstrate proficiency in Urdu:

  • Proof of Urdu as a subject/language or as medium of instruction in 10th /12th / Graduation level or equivalent Madrasa courses approved by MANUU.
  • OR, candidates without proof of Urdu can seek exemption from Urdu Qualification but will have to complete a 4 Credit Urdu Course offered by the University before submission of their thesis.

General Eligibility for Sponsored/Self-Financing (Part-Time) Mode

This program is designed for working professionals. Candidates must be:

  • A permanent/regular/full-time employee with a minimum working experience of 3 years after obtaining their qualifying degree.
  • Must obtain a “No Objection Certificate” (NOC) from their present employer on a proper letterhead.

Eligible Establishments/Professionals include:

  • Defense, Culture, Finance, Science & Technology, Education or other ministries of the Government of India or any other government organization.
  • Established industrial research and development organizations/corporates/museums/archives/research institutes/libraries.
  • Autonomous bodies and public undertakings.
  • CSIR/UGC/NCERT/SCERT/State or Central Government Department or Ministry or Educational Entrepreneur/NGOs.
  • University/Degree College Faculty.
  • Employees of Public Sector Undertakings or Government Departments or non-degree awarding Research and Development Organizations or reputed Private Industries/corporate bodies registered under Companies Act or Self-employed entrepreneurs from SMEs, Innovators or Start-ups promoters or Independent professional consultants.

NOC Requirements

The NOC from the employer must explicitly state:

  • The candidate is permitted to pursue studies on a part-time basis.
  • He/she will be fully relieved from duty for the period of required residency that is essential for completing the course work (if applicable).
  • Official duties allow him/her to attend required classes/lectures as per MANUU’s timetable at Hyderabad.
  • His/her services are likely to be retained during the period of studies.
  • Facilities for research are available at the candidate’s place of work (if the proposed Ph.D. research plan requires it).

Residency Requirement: For sponsored/self-financing candidates from outside a 50 km radial distance from MANUU, Hyderabad, a minimum residency of 6 months may be required. However, if working within 50 km, no leave is required for course work.

Selection Process for MANUU Ph.D.

The selection process for the Ph.D. Programme is rigorous and merit-based:

  • Research Admission Test (RAT): Admissions are primarily based on merit in the Research Admission Test (RAT) or the RAT exempted category weightage, followed by an interview.
  • RAT Structure: The RAT will be for 50 marks, comprising 25 marks for General Aptitude and 25 marks for Domain Subject. The test will be conducted in a bilingual mode (Urdu/English).
  • Interview: All candidates must secure 50% marks in the interview to qualify for admission.
  • Research Proposal: Candidates invited for an interview are required to submit a research proposal in their identified area of research. This proposal will be evaluated by the Interview Board/DRC.
  • Weightage for Publications: Due weightage will be given to candidates with quality research publications in reputed journals or accomplished research work in their respective fields of study.

RAT Exempted Categories

The following categories of applicants are exempted from the RAT, subject to fulfilling other eligibility conditions and discussing their broad area of research with the DRC:

  • Candidates sponsored under an MoU between MANUU and an Industry/Corporate entity/Govt. or Non-Government organization/Agency with at least three years of professional or research experience.
  • Scientists working in Research Laboratories (owned or managed by the Central/State Government or an Autonomous Research Institution of National Status) with at least three years’ experience (Grade Scientist B or above) and evidence of research.
  • Senior working professionals in the corporate sector.

Reservation Policy

MANUU strictly adheres to the reservation policies of the Government of India to ensure adequate representation of various categories of candidates:
