Eligibility Criteria

As per the Department of Posts (Postal Assistant & Sorting Assistant) Recruitment Rules 2022 (as amended), the following officials from the West Bengal Circle, excluding those from Postal Account Office or Wing, are eligible:

Category (A):

  • Officials holding a post in Level 3 of the Pay Matrix with three years of regular service in such post.
  • OR, officials with five years of combined regular service in posts in Level 1, Level 2, and Level 3 of the Pay Matrix.

Category (B):

  • Officials holding a post in Level 1, Level 2, or Level 3 of the Pay Matrix with a total regular service of eight years, including service rendered regularly as Gramin Dak Sevaks (GDS).
  • Note: For officials who have rendered regular service as Gramin Dak Sevaks on or before 17.06.2022, the total regular service (including GDS service) shall be five years.

Crucial Date for Eligibility: The eligibility of service condition shall be reckoned as on 01.01.2026.

Paper-III: Data Entry Skill Test (DEST)

  • Duration: 15 Minutes
  • Maximum Marks: 25
  • Requirement: Data entry of 1000 key depressions (± 5% accuracy).
  • Qualifying Marks:
    • General / OBC / EWS: 75%
    • SC / ST / PwD (if not exempted for skill test): 60%
  • Exemption for VH Candidates: Visually Handicapped (VH) candidates are exempted from appearing in the DEST. If a VH candidate has appeared for DEST, they shall be taken as qualified.

Selection Process

  • The examination for Paper-I and Paper-III (DEST) will be conducted.
  • Only candidates who qualify in Paper-III (DEST) will be considered for final selection.
  • The merit list will be drawn solely based on marks secured in Paper-I. Marks from Paper-III are qualifying in nature and will not be added to Paper-I marks for merit determination.
  • The number of candidates to be shortlisted for Paper-III (DEST) will be 3 to 5 times the number of vacancies.

Centres of Examination

The examination will be conducted at Circle/Regional Headquarters etc. Candidates will have to appear from the respective centres of their Region only.
